Prices lag the market
Every price on the site is a monthly average of a published benchmark, taken from the World Bank Pink Sheet or the IMF Primary Commodity Price System. A monthly average can differ a great deal from today's quote, from the price of a different grade or delivery point, and from the price a physical buyer actually pays after premiums and differentials.
Data errors are possible
Sources revise their figures, sometimes years later; pipelines have bugs; country mappings can be wrong. We publish our method, our sources and the status of every dataset so that any figure can be checked. If you find an error, tell us via the contact page with the page, the figure and the source you compared; corrections are made in the pipeline so they reach every page and the JSON endpoints.
