TTF
TTF (Title Transfer Facility) is a virtual natural gas trading point in the Netherlands whose price is the main benchmark for natural gas traded in Europe.
TTF is not a physical location but a virtual trading point within the Dutch gas pipeline network, where ownership of gas already in the system can be bought and sold without moving it anywhere. Because continental Europe’s pipeline network is well connected, a price agreed at TTF reflects gas available broadly across the region, which is why it became the default European benchmark even though the gas itself may never pass through the Netherlands.
TTF prices are shaped heavily by how much pipeline gas and LNG Europe can import relative to its needs, especially in winter. The loss of most Russian pipeline gas to Europe pushed European buyers to compete for LNG cargoes against buyers in Asia, tying TTF’s price more closely to the Asian benchmark, JKM, than in years past.
